Bambu Lab printer upgrades

Plate & Spool

Plate & Spool is a buying guide to Bambu Lab printer upgrades, written — in its own words — “for owners, not shoppers”. It assumes you already have the machine and already know how to use it, and it organises the whole site around the problem each part solves, “because about half the popular upgrades fix nothing you have”.

About This Site

What Plate & Spool does

Most 3D printing upgrade coverage is a list of parts, which is the wrong shape for the question an owner is actually asking. Plate & Spool starts from the symptom — prints warping, filament not feeding, a nozzle clogging, prints not sticking, wet filament, noise — and works back to whether a part fixes it at all. The sections follow the hardware an owner actually reaches for: the printers themselves across the A1, A1 mini, P1P, P1S, P2S, X1C, X2D and H2D, the AMS and multi-colour printing, enclosures, nozzles and build plates, filament drying, and a general upgrades section covering accessories, maintenance kits and mods. Its selection filter is three questions in order: the product has to be real and currently sold, it has to solve a problem the reader actually has, and it has to be honestly describable.

The limits of that method are printed on the page rather than buried in a footer. “There is no measurement rig behind this site and no benchmark data,” it says. “You will never read ‘in our testing’ here, because it would not be true.” It rules out first-person claims to have measured, benchmarked or run comparative trials, references to a testing team or facility, and any numeric result that would need equipment it does not have — decibels, grams, temperatures. What is left is published manufacturer and retailer specifications, cited third-party sources labelled as reported, owner-level experience with the Bambu hardware actually used, and reasoning about mechanical function. Where a specification could not be attributed to a source, the row is absent rather than estimated. There are no star ratings, no scores presented as review data, and no testimonials, because the site has none to quote. No prices are typed into an article — “a price typed into an article is wrong within a month,” so every button opens the live listing instead. And every recommendation, without exception, names who it is wrong for.

That is the same standard The First Buyer holds every site in the portfolio to, which is why Plate & Spool is here. It is owned and edited by the same person, Michael W., under the same rules: funded by Amazon affiliate commissions and nothing else, with “no sponsored reviews, no paid placements and no manufacturer supplying hardware in exchange for coverage”. 3D printing is a hobby where confident bench numbers are easy to invent and awkward for a reader to check, which is exactly why this site writes down the testing it has not done. Nothing bought its way onto this list and nothing could — the portfolio is an inventory of what one publisher answers for.

Coverage

What it covers

  • Printers — the A1, A1 mini, P1P, P1S, P2S, X1C, X2D and H2D, which one to buy, upgrading from an A1 or a P1S, and picks for ASA and for a print farm
  • AMS and multi-colour — the AMS 2 Pro reviewed, AMS 2 Pro versus AMS Lite, AMS accessories, filament not feeding, and multicolour printing without an AMS
  • Enclosures — the best enclosures, the P1S enclosure, printing ABS, noise reduction, and why prints warp
  • Nozzles and build plates — the best nozzles and plates, whether you need a hardened nozzle, clogged nozzles, and prints not sticking
  • Filament drying — the best filament dryers, whether a dryer is worth it at all, how to dry filament, wet filament symptoms, and filament compatibility
  • Upgrades and accessories — the best Bambu Lab upgrades, accessories under $30, P1S mods, maintenance kits, the Panda Touch reviewed, and print quality issues
  • Gift guides for Bambu Lab owners

What It Does For You

It tells you which Bambu Lab upgrade actually fixes the problem you have rather than one you do not, names who each pick is wrong for, and states plainly that its judgements come from attributed specifications and owner experience rather than from a measurement rig.
