Pack & Passport

Most luggage coverage ranks bags on capacity, wheels and warranty and leaves the reader to work out whether the thing will survive a gate agent with a sizer. Pack & Passport starts at the other end: the trip you are taking and the airline you are taking it on. Its own summary of the method is “we pick gear by trip type and airline rules, not by spec sheet,” and it keeps a section of airline size limits and TSA rules in table form so the number a bag has to clear is on the site rather than assumed. The coverage runs from luggage — suitcases, backpacks and personal-item bags — through packing cubes and organisers, toiletry bags and TSA-compliant bottles, and the pillows, adapters and power banks that make up the rest of a carry-on.

Its defining rule is a required field rather than a good intention. Every product on the site carries a “flaws but not dealbreakers” paragraph, and the site states that this is built into how the pages are made — “a recommendation physically cannot ship without one.” It is equally plain about the limits of its evidence: it is not a testing lab and says so, counting zero products it claims to have lab-tested, and its picks come from the specifications that actually decide a purchase, from published hands-on testing by named reviewers who are credited, and from its own travel where that genuinely applies. There are no star ratings or scores presented as measurements, no customer testimonials, no urgency or scarcity framing, and no prices — every buy link reads “Check price on Amazon” and opens the live listing instead of printing a number that will be wrong next month.

It is owned and edited by the same person, Michael W., under the same rules: no free samples, no payment for placement, and commission that “never changes what we pick or how we rank it.” Its About page also declines the easy credential — no flight count, no country tally, no claimed decade on the road — which is the harder choice in a category where a travel writer's mileage is the usual substitute for evidence. Nothing bought its way onto this list and nothing could; the portfolio is an inventory of what one publisher answers for.
